THQ has announced that Rio, based on the upcoming 3D animated movie of the same name, will hit stores in April. On Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, Rio is a four-player mini-game collection, with players taking part in 40 games as one of the six characters from the movie. On DS the game is a rhythm-based adventure.

“RIO’s humour, compelling characters, thrilling story, colourful characters and wonderful music inspired us to create a unique and imaginative game experience,” said Martin Good, THQ’s Executive Vice President of Kids, Family and Casual Games.

Rio is from the same animation studio behind the blockbuster Ice Age series, so big things are expected from the new movie. It’s somewhat surprising that the console games don’t include Kinect or PlayStation Move support, given that they’re just a collection of mini-games.
