You might want to sit down for this. Ridge Racer is coming to the PlayStation Vita. I know, it’s a huge shock for everyone.

Details haven’t been revealed, but it’s in development under the name “Ridge Racer”. Production is reportedly being handled by internal Namco Bandai staff and Celius under the direction of Ridge Racer 7 associate producer Hideo Teramoto.

While Ridge Racer games have generally launched alongside new PlayStation hardware in the past, Ridge Racer for the PSVita wasn’t shown by Sony during its E3 press conference, suggesting that it might not be ready for launch later this year.

While Sony has already shown ModNation Racers and WipEout 2048 on PSVita, the handheld launch won’t feel right unless Ridge Racer hits alongside it. The most recent game to arrive in the series is Ridge Racer 3D for the 3DS, which although a little lacking in terms of multiplayer, is easily the best racing game available for the handheld.
