Resident Evil Revelations 2 and the vast majority of its microtransactions are cheaper to purchase on Xbox One than PS4, the two digital storefronts have revealed.

While the price difference only appears to be minor, the first episode of Capcom’s latest survival horror is available for just £4.79 on Xbox One, compared to £4.99 on PS4.

Meanwhile, a pack of 12 Life Crystals, the one-time use red crystals that instantly respawn players during a Raid mission, cost £1.59 on Xbox One and £1.69 on PS4.

Additional storage slots for Parts, Weapons and Albums acquired in Raid Mode are also cheaper on Xbox One than PS4, coming in at £1.59 each on Microsoft’s console and £1.69 on PS4. Costumes for the main game are cheaper, too, priced at £2.39 on Xbox One and £2.49 on PS4.

Additional weapons, however, are priced identically across the two platforms at 79p each.

The lower price for the storage slots and costumes is also reflected on Steam, suggesting either Sony or Capcom may have put a slight premium on the PS4 version. The complete season is available for £19.99 on all platforms.

Back in 2013, rival publisher Ubisoft explained to VideoGamer.com that digital prices for its titles may differ across Xbox One and PS4 due to “pricing matrices” set by Sony and Microsoft.

“Both Microsoft and Sony provide pricing matrices for games sold digitally via their respective services, similar to the way tiered wholesale pricing works on Apple’s iTunes,” Ubisoft said at the time. “Developers, including Ubisoft, then select a wholesale price within those tiers that best corresponds to our expectations of the games’ overall value and market potential. However, the final retail prices are determined by the vendor.

“Also, because those two matrices are not identical the resulting prices on the two online services don’t always align. We’re aware this is potentially confusing for customers and are looking into what can be done.”
