Resident Evil 6 sales “surpassed” 4.8 million copies worldwide, which doesn’t sound all that bad, but the figure falls some way short of Capcom’s target for the title.

Capcom had forecast sales of seven million units, but the game shifted two million fewer units, the publisher revealed in its Q3 financial results.

“In the Digital Contents business, which constitutes our core competence, the flagship title Resident Evil 6 (for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360), despite recording brisk sales when it debuted, subsequently lost its momentum, resulting in the failure to achieve planned sales and fulfil its role as a driver of sales expansion,” said Capcom.

Last week Resident Evil Revelations producer Masachika Kawata told VideoGamer.com that Capcom released too many Resident Evil games in 2012.
