UPDATE 2: Capcom has issued an official comment on the DLC for Resident Evil 6:
“We still have unannounced DLC for RE6 that will be revealed in the coming months and while virtually all such content will not be on the disc there will be one piece of content, that for technical reasons, requires the use of a combination of newly downloaded data and data that is included on the retail game disc.”
UPDATE: A user posting on industry forum NeoGAF has suggested that these items are free unlockables rewarded via RE.net, and not premium on-disc DLC.
Capcom Community Manager Brett Elston has previously confirmed, however, that “one piece” of DLC is included on the Resident Evil 6 disc. “It’s a comparatively small piece of content that will be a mixture of existing disc data and newly downloaded data. This is the only piece of on-disc DLC for RE6.”
ORIGINAL STORY: Resident Evil 6 contains on-disc DLC, it has been revealed.
The DLC includes a new ‘No Hope’ difficulty setting, plus extra costumes, taunts and melee animations for the game’s characters.
None of the extra content has yet been announced by Capcom.
The hidden on-disc content was discovered by modders, who reverse engineered the final retail build of Capcom’s action-horror following its release last week.
You can take a look at each of the on-disc extras in the videos at the bottom of the page. Be careful, though. There are pretty major spoilers contained within.
In addition to the on-disc DLC, other files found on the disc refer to additional content not contained on the disc, too, including two further map packs, four new multiplayer game modes and a co-op option for Ada’s campaign.
Capcom has frequently been criticised for including premium DLC on-disc.
Back in May, however, the firm announced that it was “re-evaluating” its on-disc DLC policy.
It added that it had titles “scheduled for release in the coming months, for which we are unable to make changes to the way some of their post release content is delivered.”
Resident Evil 6 – presumably – is one of them. Thanks, X360A.
