Capcom announced during a Resident Evil 2 launch stream in Japan today that it will be releasing retro-themed costumes for both Leon and Claire. This makes them look like their original PSOne counterparts, right down to the blocky hair and awful shoulder pads. Fantastic!

The content will be released as DLC as part of a promotion on the game's launch day (via Resetera), although they will be available for free on March 22, the 23rd anniversary of the original Resident Evil (or Biohazard as it's known in Japan).

No word yet on a western release, although I can't imagine why they wouldn't also make it out over here. Still, Leon and Claire do have alternate outfits in the game based on their original '98 costumes, so it's not all bad.

Elsewhere, Capcom revealed that a new post-launch mode called The Ghost Survivors (via Resetera) will be made available for free. This will feature multiple playable characters, including Robert Kendo and Katherine (the mayor's daughter), and includes randomized elements, an in-game shop, and a loose narrative.

The Ghost Survivors will reportedly be rolled out in volumes, with the first one featuring a new enemy that isn't seen in Resident Evil 2. Details are still sketchy right now, so stay tuned.

Resident Evil 2 is due out on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on January 25.
