PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has launched a new test for the Sanhok map, and with it comes a curious new item: Gold treasure chests.

The mysterious objects have popped up in a few locations on Sanhok, namely the rock formation by Bootcamp Alpha and the other in a forest to the northeast of the Ruins. No one knows what they're for, as you can't interact with them at the time of writing.

Gamers are already busy nattering about the chests on Reddit, so if anything does crop up we'll probably find out soon enough.

One theory is that they're PUBG Corp's way of doffing its cap to rival battle royale title, Fortnite, which features its own shiny chests. In addition, the Sanhok map as a whole has been compared to Epic Games' title, since its small size allows for fast-paced matches.

Honestly though? Who knows. Better focus on winning those chicken dinners for now, eh?

In related news, PUBG Mobile players can now tuck into the Miramar map.
