Sony has confirmed that PSN Pass is real and is coming first with Resistance 3 for PS3 this September. The confirmation comes after a PSN Pass logo was spotted on a PS3 Resistance 3 bundle box.

“We are always evaluating new programs for our online offering, and starting with Resistance 3 this September, we will be instituting a network pass program for PS3 games with online capabilities,” said Sony in a statement. “This program will be game-specific. Games that are a part of this program will include a single-use registration code that grants the account holder redeeming the code full online access for that title.”

Sony hasn’t announced which games will use PSN Pass after Resistance 3, but did state that it is “an important initiative as it allows us to accelerate our commitment to enhancing premium online services across our first party game portfolio.”

No details on the cost of PSN Pass codes for consumers looking to add a pass to second-hand purchases have been revealed, but SCEE has confirmed that it “will be offering consumers the opportunity to buy a Network Pass at a cost.”

Resistance 3 is due for release on September 9, exclusively for PS3.

You can bet on most of Sony’s upcoming first-party titles using PSN Pass in the future. Uncharted 3 has an increased focus on online play, while Resistance dev Insomniac’s next game, Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One, features online co-op play. Are you unhappy with Sony’s introduction of PSN Pass or do you see it as a required measure to combat used-game sales?
