There’s a lot for PS Plus subscribers to be excited about. Although Sony has reiterated that first-party AAA games won’t release day one on the service unlike Xbox Game Pass, there is a highly-anticipated third-party game joining day-one soon, and Shuhei Yoshida has said it was his “favorite” experience at Summer Game Fest 2025. While we cannot wait for this day-one release, before then we will be treated to the PS Plus July 2025 Extra and Premium games. The reveal date is imminent, and here you will find what’s been confirmed so far along with the games leaving and news of another State of Play.
PS Plus July 2025 Extra and Premium games reveal date
The reveal date for the PS Plus Extra and Premium July 2025 games is July 9th. Sony always reveals the Extra and Premium games on a Wednesday one week after the release of the Essentials. The July 2025 Essentials were given away on July 1st, hence the impending announcement.
After the curtain has been pulled aside, the games will come out to play on July 15th. Regarding the August 2025 Essentials, they are expected to be identified on July 30th with a release on August 5th.
Before August 5th, make sure to claim the current Essential games: King of the Fighters XV, Diablo 4, and Justant.
Confirmed PS Plus Premium July 2025 games
Only two games have been confirmed for PS Plus Premium for July 2025:
- Twisted Metal 3
- Twisted Metal 4
In the State of Play June 2025 recap, Sony confirmed that August will also see the day-one release of Sword of the Sea. This is an upcoming beautiful game from Giant Squid, the developers of Abzu and The Pathless.
Sony also confirmed the original PS1 classics of Resident Evil 2 and 3 will join Premium “later this summer”. No date was mentioned, but they presumably mean August.
State of Play
Sony has confirmed that a State of Play dedicated to Ghost of Yotei will take place on July 10th at 2PM PT/5PM ET/10PM BST. This will provide a deep dive into its gameplay ahead of the October 2nd release date, and you will be able to watch the SoP live on PlayStation’s YouTube channel.
Per Sucker Punch, the State of Play will include “nearly 20 minutes of gameplay hosted by Sucker Punch’s Creative Directors, Jason Connell and Nate Fox”. Aspects of the game that will be shown off include Atsu’s “new weapons,” along with “new ways to personalize your journey at the edge of Japan, new special modes, and much more”.
Games leaving PS Plus Extra and Premium July 2025
Below are all the games known to be leaving PS Plus Extra and Premium on July 15th:
- Dying Light 2 (Extra)
- Remnant II (Extra)
- Mount & Blade II Bannerlord (Extra)
- Vampire The Masquerade – Swangsong (Extra)
- Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core Reunion (Premium)
- Job Simulator (Premium)
Although it’s only six games leaving, it’s a shame that they’re all mostly good. Dying Light 2 should be played, especially with the release date of The Beast nearing, and Mount and Blade II Bannerlord is a fantastic RPG with nearly limitless possibilities and freedom.
Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core Reunion is also a great remaster of the original PSP experience that provides context for Zack in FF7 Remake Part 2, as well as provides the backstory of how Sephiroth went from beloved hero to feared menace.
In other PlayStation news, GTA 6 has just appeared on the PSN store for countries Grand Theft Auto has previously been banned.
