Project Gotham Racing 3 was a launch title Microsoft and Bizarre Creations could be proud of, offering glorious next-gen visuals and bundles of Xbox Live play that showed just what Microsoft’s new console was capable of.

Now, some 18 months later, the first solid details about Project Gotham Racing 4 are finally here. Full details will be found in the May edition of Official Xbox Magazine, but Xboxic has managed to worm some info from the OXM guys.

First up, PGR4 is said to feature approximately 200 tracks across 10 locations, and players will have access to a wider range of vehicles including a vintage ’63 Corvette Sting Ray, ’54 Maserati 250F and the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano.

There has also been lots of work on the game’s weather effects, with the promise of wind, rain, ice and snow all beautifully recreated in-game – even down to water beads on the paintwork, sprays from the tires and iced-up windshields.

The in-car view is being reworked and you’ll now see drivers moving more, feeding the wheel as they take corners and pumping their fist after a win. There’ll also be new effects including a shake at high speeds and blurred vision after spending some time with a wall.

Each event will now feature a TV-style intro with choppers overhead, camera crews and video vans scattered across the venue, and hordes of fans populating the track. Fans will also react much more realistically to how you’re performing on the track, and will even wave your national flag.

There isn’t much info about online play at the moment, but there is said to be a new matchmaking system similar to that used in Halo 2 – sounds good.

We’ll bring you more on Project Gotham Racing 4 in the coming months.
