Famitsu magazine, the source of 99.9 percent of Japanese gaming news covered outside of Japan, has some juicy new details on Winning Eleven 9: Ubiquitous Edition, the PSP version of Winning Eleven 9. The title obviously having something to do with the fact that you’ll be able to take the game everywhere.
The magazine reports that the game will retain most features and game modes that are in the home console version of the game, and include a wireless gameplay mode via ad-hoc. A few things are going to need to be cut back in order for the game to be successfully ported to the PSP though.
While control will be similar to the PlayStation 2 version, the PSP lacks two shoulder buttons and a second analogue stick, meaning that some sacrifices had to be made. The most notable missing move seems to be the super cancel. This move was performed by pressing the R1 and R2 buttons together on the Dual Shock controller, but this just isn’t possible on the handheld. While the move was very handy, especially for the more skilled player, it isn’t something that most players will even know is missing.
More details are bound to be released soon and we can’t wait for the inevitable UK release. While it’s unlikely that we’ll get all the features we dream of, such as single UMD multiplayer action, Winning Eleven/Pro Evo should do some big business on the PSP.
