Prince of Persia fans on Reddit have discovered the domain for a new website related to the Sands of Time Remake. According to the findings, the website was registered in March 2022 and was recently updated on December 10, 2025, a month before the game’s rumored release in January 2026.

The domain is simply princeofpersiathesandsoftime.com, which is officially registered with Gandi.net, a French-based domain name registrar and web hosting provider. The only other detail provided is that the registry expires in March 2027.

The Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake was unveiled in September 2020 with a planned release date of January 21, 2021. Ubisoft Pune and Mumbai were originally developing the remake, but it was heavily criticized by fans, with the reveal trailer receiving a large number of dislikes.

The remake’s game director, Pierre Sylvain-Gires, defended the game’s maligned graphics as a “unique visual treatment to make [the] game standout,” but Ubisoft Pune and Mumbai were replaced as the developer by Ubisoft Montreal in 2023.

Ubisoft Montreal developed the original 2003 classic for the PlayStation 2. The Sands of Time is considered the best installment by many Prince of Persia fans in a series spanning over 35 years, and the game is synonymous with the franchise, as its title was even used for the Prince of Persia 2010 movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal.

Prince of Persia The Sands of Time Remake is rumored to release in January

According to Mike Straw of Insider Gaming, the remake is “scheduled to release in mid-January 2026”. Plans could have changed as the Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake skipped The Game Awards on December 11, 2025, despite rumors of an appearance.

Ubisoft hasn’t shown anything of the Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake since its reveal in 2020. If it is coming out in mid-January as rumors suggest, it could possibly shadow drop, meaning it might release the day of its announcement with minimal marketing.

The only instance of a shadow drop for the Prince of Persia series was the surprise simultaneous launch of the Rogue Prince of Persia for PC and consoles as a bonus addition for PS Plus Extra in August 2025.

There’s also a New Game Plus exhibition set for January 8, 2026. This event will officially showcase 45 games, featuring both indie titles and AAA productions. Ubisoft could potentially reveal a release date for the remake at this event, but an appearance has not been announced.

Remember, the Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake isn’t officially coming out in January, as it’s currently just a rumor. There are also rumors claiming that Ubisoft’s unannounced Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake will release in March 2026.
