The long-awaited Prince of Persia The Sands of Time Remake may finally be nearing release. Ubisoft first unveiled the remake in September 2020 with a planned launch date of January 21, 2021, before delaying it indefinitely. Now, the game is rumored to release in mid-January 2026, and new activity on its registered website has fueled speculation that an announcement may be imminent.

On January 14, two new files appeared on the game’s registered website, which is currently offline but hosted through Gandi.net, a France-based domain registrar frequently used by Ubisoft. One of the files is a PNG explicitly titled “game-release-tomorrow”. This discovery was shared by Prince of Persia fan account popuniverseX, who also provided a screenshot as proof.

PopuniverseX’s account has been suspended on X, but thankfully, the discovery was also captured by Assassin’s Creed fan account, Zephryss.

In a recent article focused on the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake, Insider Gaming owner Tom Henderson says that the publication had “seen materials stating that the Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake would launch on January 16”. The same report notes that marketing was originally planned to begin in December, but this didn’t happen as Ubisoft skipped The Game Awards 2025.

If the remake does launch on January 16, it would be a major shadowdrop, meaning a game released almost immediately with barely any marketing. Based on the newly surfaced file, it’s possible the official website could go live on January 15 to announce the release date for January 16, but this is speculation rather than anything official.

Development of the remake is led by Ubisoft Montreal, who took over the project from Ubisoft Pune and Mumbai in 2023. The game has not been seen since its poorly received 2020 reveal, which drew criticism for its outdated graphics.

The original Prince of Persia The Sands of Time was released in 2003 and also developed by Ubisoft Montreal. Following Prince of Persia, Ubisoft is rumored to launch the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake before March 31, 2026.
