There’s been some developments surrounding PlayStation’s rumoured answer to Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation Spartacus.

Jeff Grubb brought up the service on the latest episode of his Grubbsnax podcast, as transcribed by Video Games Chronicle. Grubb claimed that the project was “Probably getting pretty close to this actually launching”. In fact, he went on to say that “Something’s probably going to happen by the end of this month and I don’t think that necessarily means publicly, I think in terms of the internal milestone of where the service needs to be.”

Grubb then confirmed some of the details from Bloomberg’s original report from December that the service would have three tiers. According to Grubb, these tiers are currently under the monikers ‘essential’ ‘extra’ and ‘premium’. “The pricing, again could be a placeholder, but the pricing is $10 a month for essential, $13 a month for extra and $16 a month for premium.”

Grubb claims players would get “full game trials” at the Premium tier. He also added “You also get classic games and streaming, none of the other tiers will have cloud streaming, you also get classic games. I don’t know what classic games means, but I do know that it’s a major part of this premium tier. So you have game trials, classic games and streaming on this premium tier.”

The ‘extra’ tier meanwhile, seems like it’d be similar to PlayStation Now with a downloadable game catalogue of what he said was “300” games. The Essential tier, meanwhile, he said was “PS Plus with the monthly games, just like you know it today.”

There’s still no word from Sony just yet, so we’re still taking all of this with a pinch of salt. Hopefully, we’ll hear more on PlayStation Spartacus soon. Last month, the rumour mill frothed up further when PlayStation 3 games started appearing on the PlayStation 5 store.
