Sony’s still-unannounced PS5 Pro has been leaked with a design that looks incredibly similar to the current PlayStation 5 Slim. A day after the rumored PS5 Pro design swept online, fans aren’t too impressed with the alleged mid-gen refresh.
Fans react to PS5 Pro
In a thread on the PS5 subreddit, fans have reacted to the new console without much enthusiasm. While the alleged PS5 Pro specs are exciting, the new console’s rumored design just looks like a slightly extended PlayStation 5 Slim.
Most fans mocked the console’s slight extension of the existing Slim console’s single black line into three “racing stripes”, the one major design change from the current hardware.
“I just copied the console we have now,” one PlayStation player said. “Then, I added some fins to lower wind resistance. And this racing stripe here I feel is pretty sharp.”
“Nice, I can buy one and my wife won’t notice the difference,” joked another gamer. “Just looks like it has grills on the side,” said a third.
The lack of discs
Currently, the only renders of the PS5 Pro lack any form of disc drive. In the original report, the leakers only saw a disc-less system, although it’s assumed the console can use the disc drive add-on made for the PS5 Digital Edition.
“I’m going to be really annoyed if I have to pay $600+ for this console and another $80+ for the disc drive,” one PlayStation gamer wrote.
“I am a little disappointed with disc drive being more and more of an obvious add-on, instead of an integral part of the machine,” said another. “At this point, I would prefer a separate unit on the side, instead of an ugly bump on an otherwise sleek look.”
“If no disc drive then I won’t be interested in this,” a third gamer said. “Even if that detachable one technically works. Not going to support [the] removal of using physical media.”
At the time of writing, the PS5 Pro has yet to be announced by Sony, although it is assumed the device will finally be confirmed by the end of the year.
