SOE's upcoming MMO PlanetSide 2 may be coming to PS3, hinted company president John Smedley at the recent SOE Fan Faire.

After being asked whether PlanetSide 2 would be launched on the console as well as on PC, Smedley coyly replied:

"We were first with DCUO, second with Free Realms, and we have other things planned, possibly beyond even the PS3."

SOE has also confirmed to RPS the MMO will feature a free component, as well as an in-game cash shop. Whether the game will be free-to-play or financed by micro-transactions has yet to be confirmed.

Smedley, however, has stated that the micro-transaction store will only sell player customisation items as opposed to in-game weapons.

"There will be a cash shop for the game however the goal is not to sell power.

"For example we would sell things like customisation because we would like there to be a massive amount of ways to customise your characters. So people could recognise you or your outfit out of a group. We will not sell a more powerful gun or vehicle."

Recently fans of the long-standing MMO Eve Online were up in arms after documents were leaked revealing plans for a micro-transaction model which would make ammunition and ships available for purchase rather than acquired through skill.

No official release date has been announced for PlanetSide 2.
