Atlus has published a new report on the commercial success of its Persona series, and Persona 5 Royal has sold approximately 400,000 copies since its launch in October (via Siliconera).
The Royal edition is Persona 5 but with all the trimmings, tied up with a bow, and a cherry on top. I joke, but the game got an extra semester, new locations, new mechanics and features, new melodies, and a new Phantom Thief to expand upon the content of the original game. Persona 5 Royal launched on October 31 in Japan and has sold about 400,000 units for the PlayStation 4, Atlus announced. It’s tipped to release some time in spring 2020 for Western regions, but rumours are circulating that it will coincide with the Asian release of the game on February 20, 2020.
In addition, Atlus said that the original Persona 5 has surpassed 3.2 million copies in lifetime sales worldwide. It is heartwarming to see that people are interested in the previous game as well as the revamped re-release, and this could also be due to the increasing popularity of JRPGs with classic mechanics. Yakuza: Like a Dragon will include turn-based battles, and Fairy Tail will adopt strategic grid-like combat encounters in its adaptation of the anime. And, the Persona franchise has now sold over 11 million games and assorted products in over two decades.
