Blizzard has confirmed the start date of an upcoming Halloween event for hero shooter Overwatch 2.
It’ll be the first seasonal event for the sequel – which arrived on PC and consoles in October – but it’ll be carrying on the tradition of similar events for the first Overwatch – which was then known as Junkenstein’s Revenge.

While Blizzard hasn’t given us specific details of what to expect, we are expecting more information imminently.
Overwatch 2 Halloween event release date and predicted time
According to a tweet from the official Overwatch account, the Halloween Terror event will begin in Overwatch 2 on Tuesday October 25, 2022. It will run from October 25 to November 8, 2022.
No time has been confirmed, but if it follows suit to the when the main game was released, we can expect to see the Halloween event kick off around 8pm BST / 9pm CEST / 3pm ET.

The date was revealed via the game’s Twitter account – posting the date with a brief video announcing its arrival.

Although we don’t know quite exactly what’s in store, Blizzard have been seeding clues around via its various social media accounts.
First off is a tweet from President of Blizzard Mike Ybarra, who reassured fans that the new seasonal event will include a “brand new game mode” – so it won’t just be a re-hash of the one from previous years.

In fact, Mike calls it a “sequel” to Junkenstein’s Revenge (JR). This also tracks with what we were told in an Overwatch 2 blog post back in September.
Back then, we were informed that the limited time game mode will be entitled Junkenstien’s Revenge: ‘Wrath of the Bride’. We now know that Junkrat, the main villain in the JR has been replaced by a baddie called Sombra.
Presumably, there’ll also be Halloween-themed cosmetics to earn too.
Wrath of the Bride will also see players battle it out as a team in a 4-player co-op horde mode. The PVE mode will see Sojourn, Kiriko, Ashe and the Junker Queen as playable heroes, working together to take on wave upon wave of enemies called Zomnics.
Overwatch 2 Torbjorn, Bastion & Junkertown restored
The October 25 update is also set to return two characters and a map to the game. Both Torbjorn and Bastion were removed from competitive modes earlier this month after some major bugs were found.
Similarly, Junkertown was also temporarily disabled last week from all queues, as it was found to be causing graphical performance issues.
All three are set to return, according to the Blizzard forums, with the October 25 update. We’ll find out with the patch notes tomorrow.

Overwatch 2 Halloween event reactions
So far, reaction to the Overwatch 2 Halloween event has been decidedly mixed. A growing thread on the game’s official Reddit has fans disappointed that the event itself seems to offer no free skins as rewards, only sprays, emotes and cosmetics.
In fact, it seems this year the only free skin offered will be that in Twitch Drops. Other new Halloween skins this year will seemingly only be available as purchases in the shop.
We’ll have to wait and see what the final verdict is when the update releases.
