The Xbox 360 has now sold 40.2 million units worldwide, as of March 31, 2010. That’s according to figures released in Microsoft’s financial earnings. The Xbox 360 launched in the tail-end of 2005 and currently has a software attach rate of 8.8 games per console sold – bringing total software sales to a massive 353.8 million.
In recent months the Xbox 360 has suffered slightly, with sales down 12 per cent compared to the same period last year. Between January and the end of March 2010, the console sold 1.5 million units worldwide.
Microsoft will be hoping the introduction of its new motion-based control system, Project Natal, will boost sales of the now ageing hardware when it’s released during the holiday period later this year.
