The Humble Store End of Summer Sale ended yesterday, and along with the sale ending another started up. You’ve read that correctly: the Humble Store End of Summer Sale Encore means the sale hasn’t really ended at all. In celebration of its extended sale, the Humble Store is giving away a free PC copy of the hit horror game Outlast and its Whistleblower DLC for the next 24 hours.

Red Barrels debut game, Outlast, is a first-person survival horror, and it’s a pretty damn good one — provided you don’t mind running, hiding, hiding some more, running like a bugger, hiding for an hour, and occasionally finding a key. You play as journalist Miles Upshur as he films footage for an exposé on Mount Massive Asylum, a dilapidated psychiatric hospital overrun by homicidal patients. Yeah, it’s pretty haunting alright, and dark. Really, really dark. The whole experience makes me wish that I’d eaten more carrots as a child. Outlast also had this innate ability to make me feel all clammy and dirty when playing it.

A sequel to Outlast came out earlier this year, and it received generally favourable reviews.

The Humble Store Outlast Deluxe Edition on PC freebie is available until 6pm BST on September 23. The End of Summer Sale Encore will be going until 6pm BST on September 25.
