Even more details have surfaced regarding the game’s industry’s worst-kept secret: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Following leaked gameplay images and official web pages, fans have discovered the game’s eye-watering file size.
Discovered via a SteamDB page listing, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered’s file size has been discovered for the game’s PC version. Let’s just say, you’re gonna need to make space on your SSD.
Oblivion Remastered file size
According to leaked information from Steam, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered will take up 120GB of storage space on PC.
The PC version of the 2006’s RPG’s Game of the Year Edition — which included Knights of the Nine and The Shivering Isles — took up just 4.6GB on PC. This means that the new version of the RPG is more than 26 times larger than its original incarnation.
As the PC version of the game has the highest quality assets, it should be the largest download option for the game. While unconfirmed at the time of writing, the Xbox Series S version should be smaller as the system typically uses lower-quality assets.
Hilariously, the new Oblivion Remastered release isn’t even the biggest install size for a Bethesda RPG. In fact, that record is currently held by Starfield which comes in at 125GB without its Shattered Space expansion.
The new version of Oblivion is said to use Unreal Engine 5 to power its visuals on top of the original game’s code. Judging from images we’ve already seen of the new remaster, the asset quality on display is insane, even if the original game’s highly saturated vibe is seemingly replaced.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is expected to release sometime today.
