Disney Plus’ latest Star Wars show Obi Wan Kenobi released to much fanfare last month.

The return of Ewan McGregor was big news, and the series filled in some of what happened to our favourite Jedi Master between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

Naturally then, fans are hyped for a possible second season. Here’s what we know so far.

Obi Wan Kenobi Season 2 – release date speculation & rumours

At the time of writing, Disney is yet to confirm a second season of Obi Wan Kenobi, so there’s no release date so far.

However, the series is set ten years before the events of A New Hope. That still leaves plenty of time in Star Wars lore between the end of the series and the movie. We’d also be remiss to mention a very specific cameo that could tease potential further adventures. (Though we won’t go into detail here because spoilers.)

For what it’s worth, lead actor Ewan McGregor has already said he’d be up for making another one. Speaking to Radio Times, McGregor said the following: “I’m sure we can think of a few more stories before I turn into Alec Guinness. Don’t you think?”

He’s not the only one raising (A New?) hopes for a follow-up. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has also gone on the record as being open to more Obi Wan adventures.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, she said: “I think if there’s huge engagement and people really want more Obi-Wan, we’ll certainly give that consideration because the fans, they speak to us. And if we feel like, ‘OK, there’s a real reason to do this; it’s answering the why then,’ then we’ll do it. But we’ll see.”

There’s plenty of Star Wars goodness on the immediate horizon, even if we don’t get an Obi Wan Kenobi Season 2 right away. Next month sees the release of Star Wars Andor, coming to Disney+ on September 21, 2022. That’s not to mention a third season of The Mandalorian early next year.
