Nintendo has announced a brand new entry in its enormously popular Wii Sports series, entitled (imaginatively) Nintendo Switch Sports.

The new collection will launch with six sports; returning favourites Bowling, Tennis and Chambara (swordplay). However, there’s also three new sports in the form of Football (the Soccer kind) Badminton and Volleyball. An update in the Autumn will also add a seventh sport: Golf.

Just as before, you’ll play these sports using your Joy-Con controllers. As an extra wrinkle, you’ll also be able to get a Leg Strap to attach your controller to your leg for Shoot-Out mode in Football. An update coming in the Summer will let you use the strap for entire Football matches too.

Of course, local and online multiplayer is supported across all the sports. There’ll also be the opportunity to play with others via random matchmaking. To prepare for this, Nintendo has also confirmed an online play test to take place next weekend. Anyone with a Nintendo Switch Online membership can join in with three sessions on Saturday February 19 and two on Sunday, February 20. Check out the exact testing times in the post over on the official website.

One thing that hasn’t been mentioned is if the game will be playable on the Joy-Con-less Nintendo Switch Lite. We’ll have to wait and see if there’s more detail on that later. For now, you can check out the trailer for yourself down below. Nintendo Switch Sports arrives on April 29, 2022.
