Sony’s London Studio recently announced a partnership with Nike Motionworks for their next Eyetoy product. Kinetic “represents a unique new development in physical gaming,” apparently, and has been developed with Motionworks’ fitness trainers help from the beginning.

Billed as a title that will help players with fitness levels in general, reactions, balance, breathing techniques and all round conditioning, as well as warm-up routines, stretches and toning sequences, and presented in the Eyetoy manner of putting the player ‘in’ the game, Kinetic looks to be a step further in the direction of games that encourage fitness. It also seems like a step further away from being an actual game.

Four areas of discipline will be on offer: the Aero Motion and Combat zones take inspiration from the moves and stances a person would incorporate in activities such as Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Kick Boxing, Modern Dance and Aerobics. On the flipside is the Mind and Body zone which is inspired by Yoga and Tai Chi and will leave players feeling relaxed, yet with their body fully conditioned (at least, that’s what the blurb says).

Add into this a Wide Angled Lense attachment for the hardware itself, which allows for more of a player to be included on the screen, and Sony/Nike/Sike/Nony have an interesting project on their hands. Hopefully it will actually be fun aswell.

More news as it develops.
