How To Set Up A Wrist Shot

To properly set up for a wrist shot in NHL 23, your player needs to be holding the puck on their forehand side. As you skate towards the net, you want to pull the puck back slightly. If you are using a left-handed player, you need to pull the right stick (RS) back to the 7 o’clock position. For right-handed players, you need to pull it back to the 5 o’clock position. As soon as you see an opening to shoot, pull the right stick up in one motion to release a wrist shot.

When you’re taking a wrist shot, it’s important to be mindful of the positioning of your right stick. It isn’t a pullback directly to 6 o’clock because that’ll leave you taking a slap shot. Play around in practice mode a bit and keep the on-ice trainer on. It’ll give you feedback and tell you what kind of shot you’re taking so you’ll know whether you’re doing the right motion.

When To Use The Wrist Shot

When it comes to NHL 23, it isn’t enough to know how to take a wicked wrister. You also need to know when it makes sense to take one. Typically, one of the best situations to use the wrister is when you’re skating down the wing and decide to cut to the middle.

For seasoned NHL players, it’s known as the “cut right shoot left cheese”, or vice versa if your player is left-handed. This term got thrown around for a reason and is still very common in the game. If you have the puck and you’re using Ovechkin or Matthews, cut to the middle and pick a corner with a wrister.

There are plenty of other opportunities to use the wrist shot as well. This shot is super effective in all game modes and mastering it will make you a deadly scoring threat all over the ice.
