Had enough of being on one of the league’s bottom feeders in your NHL 23 ‘Be a Pro’ career?
If you’re looking for a change of scenery or perhaps trying to play for your favorite team, there’s good news: You can request a trade, even if it’s your first season in the big leagues.
There is a problem though, and that problem is your General Manager wasn’t born yesterday and knows your value.
NHL 23: How To Get Traded In Be A Pro

How To Request A Trade
NHL 23 allows you to put in a trade request any time you want. At the main menu of your Be a Pro career, you’ll see a notification that lets you talk with your GM. Bear in mind though that you’ll have to play through the preseason games for your current club before seeing the notification.
So for you Maple Leafs fans out there wincing at the idea of playing for the Canadiens in NHL 23, you’ve got to suck it up for a few games before demanding out. Once that notification pops up, you can sit down and try to persuade your way out of town.
Timing A Trade
While you can ask for a trade right away in your NHL 23 Be a Pro season, it’s better that you wait a little before you sit down with your GM. Not surprisingly, your current team isn’t going to be crazy about giving up such a young talent without even seeing you play a season for them.
Even if you increase your dialogue skills, it’s likely not going to be enough to persuade your GM. And if your trade request fails, you lose 300 Management and 150 teammate likability points.
Unfortunately, year two will provide a similar story in NHL 23. But if you do put some more points into that dialogue skill tree, you do have a better shot at getting traded.
The Best Way To End Up On The Team You Want
Requesting a trade is simple and you can do it early on in your Be a Pro career. But actually getting your GM to agree to let you go is where things get tricky. And if you think about it, this does make sense.
Imagine if this year’s first round draft pick, Juraj Slafkovsky, demanded out of Montreal? That stuff doesn’t happen often in the NHL and it’s pretty much the same way in NHL 23 Be a Pro.
So what can you do? Well, your best bet is by at least playing through the first season of your career. Level up your dialogue skills as much as you can and give it a shot in year 2 of your career.
If that doesn’t work, play out the rest of your entry level contract and try requesting a trade after your third year is up. GMs are more likely to be willing to trade you at that time, especially if you have invested in your dialogue skills.
For those of you that don’t want to play through all those games for a team you don’t like, you can sim your way through those seasons and finally book your ticket out of town.
