Criterion has announced that a demo for Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit will be available to download starting October 26.

In the Need for Speed Hot Pursuit demo, players will be able to chase as a cop in the Dark Horse Hot Pursuit event, speeding through the coastal highway and mountainous ridges of Seacrest County.

The demo will also allow players to experience Autolog, the social network that tracks cop and racer performances while playing solo. Once players add a friend to their Need for Speed friends list, the second event will unlock called Roadster’s Reborn, where gamers can compete as racers to set the best times.

Play the demo and you’ll also earn 500 bounty award points in the full game for both Cop and Racer careers. Bounty allows players to unlock events and exotic cars and progress through their careers in the full game.

The Need for Speed Hot Pursuit demo will be available for download October 26 on Xbox LIVE and the PlayStation Network in the UK on October 27.

The retail game will be available on November 19 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

A pre-release demo is a great way for gamers to decide for themselves if a game is worth buying. A good demo will be particularly important for Hot Pursuit, with EA and Criterion looking to convince fans that the franchise can still produce a quality arcade game in the wake of the disappointing NFS Undercover.

Furthermore, EA has wisely decided to close off the demo on November 9, meaning gamers hooked on the new gameplay will have to make a purchase in order to continue.
