The next generation of PES games will utilise Kojima Production’s Fox Engine, senior producer Naoya Hatsumi has told Eurogamer.

Speaking at the official PES 2013 reveal in Brazil about what Konami has planned for the next generation of PES – specifically so not to start on a back foot to EA – senior producer Naoya Hatsumi said: “What we are trying to do is we are going to win back the crown when it comes to the next generation.

“That’s what we want to do, and to do this we need to have a new engine. That’s what we think.”

“We have to use a new engine,” Hatsumi continued. “Have you heard of the Fox Engine? We are working very closely with them.”

Fox Engine is being developed by Kojima Productions for future titles, promising shorter development times on multiplatform projects.

How far away the next generation PES is remains to be seen. In the meantime fans will have to hope PES 2013 is a step in the right direction.

If Konami’s PES Team is going to be using Fox Engine this could indicate a publisher-wide next-generation policy to create titles using the advanced game engine.
