Fresh rumors about Crystal Dynamics’ new Tomb Raider game have emerged. These rumors again claim it takes place in an open-world, but now it’s reported that it will star a “prime” and “mature” Lara Croft. Not only that, but its story involves “forming alliances” and learning the importance of “teamwork”.

These rumors come courtesy of V Scooper who posts leaks about Hollywood and has a verified thread of several leaks that came true. V Scooper doesn’t report on any other video games besides the next Tomb Raider, which makes their involvement bizarre and intriguing.

Back in 2024, V Scooper reported that Lara Croft’s next AAA adventure takes place in an open-world set in Northern India. According to the leaker, Lara is racing against a Society of Raiders and other rivals to find powerful relics. They also reported a “new feature based on recruiting teams and allies to strategically aid you in missions,” and there is allegedly a motorcycle to explore the open-world.

Now V Scooper has returned with new details. They claim the characters have been reworked, with Lara “portrayed at her prime, her career’s peak,” and that she’s “Hunting Ashoka’s mythical weapons that grant conquest power”. The open-world also reportedly offers “harsh deserts, cliffs, abundant jungles & icy mountains”.

Replying to Tomb Raider fans, V Scooper claims, “Lara herself is more grounded, mature and experienced,” but the “world and the stakes around lean more mystical”. They also only know of the motorcycle as the only drivable vehicle, but it’s possible Crystal Dynamics will implement others.

V Scooper hasn’t seen gameplay, but the “direction pointed toward a more agile and expressive traversal,” raising hopes of Lara’s acrobatics returning. They also report the game offers a “more strategic approach,” with “Non-lethal options and even directing allies in certain situations”.

New Tomb Raider likely in “final phases” but Game Awards reveal not certain

V Scooper believes from what they know that the new Tomb Raider “must be in the final phases, including polishing”. However, they don’t know if it will be at The Game Awards.

Fans are optimistic about a reveal at The Game Awards because The Legend of Lara Croft Season 2 is premiering on Netflix the same day, December 11. The anime is also designed to unify the timelines for the next game so Crystal can continue beyond the Survivor trilogy.

We hope it will be at The Game Awards, but we’ll just have to wait and see. Right now, the only official news is that Amazon is “continuing” to help with the game despite mass layoffs, and Crystal Dynamics has also recently suffered layoffs as they look to “optimize” the new Tomb Raider game.

Beyond the next game, Tomb Raider fans have a live-action Amazon Prime series starring Sophie Turner to anticipate. Sophie Turner isn’t the unanimous popular choice among fans to play Lara Croft, but she has promised the fanbase that “Lara is in very safe hands”.
