New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be released for the 3DS in August, Nintendo has announced. The game features Mario, Luigi, and loads of other Nintendo characters from the Mario series. According to Nintendo the game has been created with the goal of being playable by players of all skill levels.

Kirby fans are also in for a treat, with a special Kirby 20th anniversary disc being released for the Wii. The collection will include a variety of previously released Kirby games.

“A new Mario game and a big Kirby celebration will help make 2012 an especially great year for Nintendo fans,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Whether they’re playing at home on Wii or using Nintendo 3DS to have fun on the go, players can look forward to experiencing some of our biggest franchises in exciting ways.”

A 3DS system update is also on the way, with the ability to create folders on the HOME screen coming on April 25. The update also enables the ability to patch select software, including a shortcut exploit fix coming in May.
