Speaking to GamerBytes, Gameloft has revealed some new info on its upcoming remake of the classic side-scrolling platformer Earthworm Jim.

The XBLA/PSN/WiiWare/iPhone title is based on the SEGA Mega Drive classic (plus the Big Bruty level added to the PC and MEGA CD versions), but has been reworked from scratch to feature better graphics, smoother animations and new difficulty levels.

The remake will also support various leaderboards, tracking killed enemies, total time and other statistics. Gameloft also revealed that the game will feature some surprises, although wasn’t ready to talk about them at this time.

Fans will also be pleased to hear that the original soundtrack by Tommy Tallarico will also be present.

Earthworm Jim is scheduled for release later this year with a one-month exclusivity period on Xbox LIVE Arcade.
