Late last month Nintendo slipped out the announcement for Excite Truck sequel, Excitebots: Trick Racing, but details were scarce.

We’re now a little more clued-up on the title thanks to a preview inside the April edition of Nintendo Power magazine. The magazine hasn’t hit stands yet, but officially released scans do offer some details.

Excite Truck fans can rest easy. According to the magazine preview much of what made the truck racer so popular remains intact: the horizontal Wii Remote controls, insane speed, huge jumps and land deformation. The biggest change is the fact the trucks are gone, replaced with robotic racing animals and insects.

Nintendo Power states that players will be able to take control of a host of bizarre racing creatures, including a ladybug, a beetle, a grasshopper, a bat, a frog, a turtle, a mouse and a mantis. Each drives differently and in-game power-ups can temporarily transform racers, allowing them to run on two legs.

The game is actually scheduled for an April release in the US, but we’re yet to get an official announcement regarding a European release date.
