NBA 2K24 has pushed back on the alleged shooting changes to the game in a recent update. Rumors abounded that shot meters and shooting metrics were buffed in a Season 2 change, but that is evidently not the case. 2K took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to dispute that idea.

NBA 2K24 officially debunks shooting update theory

Many NBA 2K players believed a viral rumor that shooting was different following a recent patch. That is not the case, and the rumor grew so big that 2K had to step in and say that they did not update shooting in NBA 2K24.

“There have been no changes made to shooting in NBA 2K24 since the ones made at the start of Season 2,” they succinctly stated on X. There were some updates dropped at the beginning of Season 2, but that started on October 20, over two weeks ago.

That update did introduce a few changes to shooting, according to the official patch notes:

  • Better shot coverage detection for OPEN vs. WIDE OPEN
  • Slight buff to close shots, wide open jump shots, and Limitless Range badge

Other than that, they left shooting alone and they haven’t touched it since that date. Despite what 2K players might have thought, there were no other updates to shooting. In fact, that Season 2 patch was the last update the developers released.

In their social media post, 2K pleaded with players to only trust verified news for updates. They have their own patch notes log, and if something isn’t included there, it wasn’t added to the game. Any on-court gameplay changes will be reported there.

If there are any changes to the game, they will be reported. Otherwise, they’re probably not legitimate.
