This year, the online community you will participate in will be based on the console generation you own. For next-gen users (PS5 or Xbox Series X), ‘The City‘ will be the online mode you will play in. Per the announcement below from NBA 2K23, you’ll see that The City will have its own special reveal coming up next Wednesday on September 7th.

However, for those that play on current-gen consoles, including the PS4 and Xbox One, the online neighborhood you will have exclusive access to is what NBA 2K23 is calling, the ‘G.O.A.T. Boat‘.

What is G.O.A.T. Boat?

The G.O.A.T. Boat is NBA 2K23’s online neighborhood for current-gen users. In case you don’t know, the neighborhood is the online feature connected to MyCAREER that allows you to upgrade your player in various ways and immerse yourself in several engaging online modes as well.

For those of you that played NBA 2K22, the G.O.A.T. Boat will be its own unique version of what the Cancha Del Mar cruise ship neighborhood was but with just that much more to offer. Let’s jump right to it in the next section.

NBA 2K23: What’s new in G.O.A.T. Boat?

Debuting on the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on NBA 2K23 is the G.O.A.T. Boat and there’s plenty to be excited about it. A key part of the G.O.A.T. Boat was its emphasis on expanding what it had offered on its blueprint from the year prior, the Cancha Del Mar.

If you thought the Cancha Del Mar was special, you’re in for a treat on the G.O.A.T. Boat in NBA 2K23, where they increased the total number of courts to play on while adding no-wait gameplay options to explore as well. Let’s go over all the details we can expect in this new neighborhood mode.

Environmental Changes

Though 2K did use the Cancha Del Mar as their blueprint, it will be completely different in its own right with a much more accessible layout. At the forefront, is the environmental changes, which includes an all new deck system. Accommodation was important for NBA 2K, so they added more game modes and courts, a more centralized Promenade experience, and broader hallways to traverse through.

This is the three deck layout you can expect to see in NBA 2K23’s G.O.A.T. Boat.

More Ways To Play

To make it a more balanced and engaging experience, NBA 2K23 went out on a limb to make their matchmaking experience more fluent with less wait times, adding modes that include no-wait gameplay to go along with Got Next spots. With both these modes at your disposal, wait times will go down, including in the REC.

Seasons

A big hit from last year’s edition was the excursions you could take across the globe. Well in NBA 2K23, they’re bringing it back and with an added flare and plenty of all-new locations over international waters. Though the destinations have not been revealed, fans can expect one new excursion and one new on-deck event for each season.

In addition, NBA 2K23 will be introducing plenty of new cosmetic updates and new thematic court designs and logos for 5v5, 3v3, and 2v2.

Quests

Quests are coming back to NBA 2K23 and with a new twist. In NBA 2K22’s Cancha Del Mar, you could start different quests with certain NPCs around the cruise ship, something that would appear in your quest journal.

However, this year you will have to interact with the NPC to begin the quests, and, to add to their previous collection of quest options (Daily, Weekly, and Seasonal), NBA 2K23 will be introducing Rival Quests. Similarly to what it sounds like, each rival quest will be its own storyline that grants you a chance to go head-to-head with the NCP rival and enjoy an authentic dialogue experience.

NBA 2K22: Cancha Del Mar Neighborhood

The Cancha Del Mar cruise ship was a successful first attempt at what fans will be getting from the G.O.A.T. Boat that’s coming to NBA 2K23.

There was a lot introduced in last years’ cruise ship online neighborhood. But to get a better idea of what NBA 2K23 built off of, we’re going to review the key features that were added in last year’s installment of the franchise.

MyCOURT

MyCOURT was a really cool feature that granted fans the chance to build and customize their own court. From colorful murals, different court styles, and a bunch of scoreboards to pick from, MyCOURT was a great way to build your own personal court that could be a spot for you to improve yet be creative.

Season Excursions

Arguably the coolest new feature from the Cancha Del Mar last year, was the ability to travel to different places across the globe and visit scenic courts for an excursion. By doing these excursions, you had the chance to earn special rewards and unique experiences that enhanced your MyPLAYER progression.

Well, lo and behold, NBA 2K23 is bringing that back in their new G.O.A.T. Boat neighborhood feature with just that much more.

Game Modes & Rewards

A neat component about the neighborhood in NBA 2K22, was the layout of the game modes and the rewards you could get for doing simple things. Each game mode was on a certain deck of the boat, whether it was 3v3s, 2v2s, or ProAm. This provided a plethora of different games players could try out and explore. And to the delight of many, NBA 2K23 will be doing the same once more.

In addition, the rewards you could earn provided a nice flare to your experience. Aside from the Daily Spin or Daily Pick Em rewards, you could also prizes twice per season by visiting restaurants on board. The two-for-one perk of nourishing your player while getting reward made for a simple yet fun way to progress with your player.
