Namco has announced Stargate SG-1: The Alliance. The squad-based first-person shooter, based on the TV show of the same name, will be released later this year for the PC and major consoles.

General Jack O’Neill must travel with his squad to an alien outpost and retrieve a powerful artefact before the evil Anubis can get hold of it. Spread over 16 missions and a number of familiar alien worlds, players assume the role of the original SG-1 team, including O’Neill, Teal’C, Colonel Carter and Daniel.

Science fiction fans everywhere will rejoice at ‘Stargate SG-1: The Alliance,’ an authentic interpretation of one of the most beloved sci-fi series ever,” said Garry Cole, executive vice president at Namco Hometek, Inc. “With an original storyline, intense team based gameplay and a host of competitive and cooperative multiplayer options, the game breaks new ground in delivering an engrossing deep space adventure.”

Throughout the game you’ll use a great arsenal of weapons and vehicles to help you defeat Anubis, and if you need a little extra help, the game allows players to play through the campaign with up to three friends. A number of competitive multiplayer game modes have also been included, with Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Last Man Standing, Enslave and Jaffa all available to players. A map editor and support for downloadable content should extend the game’s lifespan.

While Namco will publish the game in North America, JoWooD will be publishing the game in Europe. We’ll bring you more on SG-1: The Alliance as soon as we hear more.
