THQ today announced MX vs. ATV Reflex, the next instalment in the best-selling off-road racing franchise, is scheduled for release on Xbox 360, PS3, PSP and Nintendo DS in Holiday 2009.

The game is in development at Rainbow Studios and promises revolutionary physics that will allow for real-world terrain deformation and an intuitive, dual-stick control scheme.

“Rhythm Racing 2.0 is the most advanced physics engine Rainbow Studios has ever created, and is an all-inclusive framework that characterizes the essence of MX vs. ATV Reflex,” said Nick Wlodyka, general manager, Rainbow Studios. “We’ve combined the fluid Rider Reflex control system with ever-changing, real-time terrain deformation to create an experience that will immerse gamers in the rhythm of a race like never before.”

The Rider Reflex control system is said to provide unparalleled precision and fluidity by separating machine steering from body positioning, which allows the independently controlled rider to shift his weight, perform death-defying stunts and avoid potentially devastating wrecks.

Terrain deformation won’t just be for show, with the carved lines and deep ruts having a real-time impact on gameplay and remaining persistent through the full length of each race.
