A number of players intending to play the next MW3 game on Xbox are now considering skipping the game’s usual launch window following the news the game could arrive on Game Pass early next year.

Just a few days ahead of the MW3 beta start time on Xbox and PC, folks on the Modern Warfare 2 subreddit were asked what they made of Activision’s announcement last night that it intended to bring MW3 to the Game Pass service in 2024. Though there’s a lot of excitement elsewhere – check out our MW3 beta impressions here – it appears it’s also left many questioning whether the usual outlay for buying the new game at launch will be worth the money. “Absolutely not,” says Talk0bell, saying “Nothing about MW2 makes me think this is going to be worth $100.”

There are some that have already pre-ordered, and are sticking around for now – but they might not be around for the launch of future titles. “Pre-order and it will be my last time,” says KINGWHEAT98. “Since this is what Activision is saying Game Pass is where I will be playing the future titles.” Some people are citing their perception of MW3 as a glorified expansion to MW2 as factors in the lack of value too, with Game Pass’ monthly fee also including well, every other game on game pass too – a much more attractive offer. “I think for the time being this is the last time I would buy a COD title once the Microsoft deal goes in full motion, I love you Game Pass!” says shrimpy-rimpy.

Game Pass isn’t the only reason that some are nervous mind, including of course tech issues that usually mar large-scale launches like that of Call of Duty. “Nope, for the first time since 2008, I will not own the newest COD on release night,” reveals thepohcv. They’ve struggled to drop a fully functioning COD on release for how many years in a row? No money from me until it runs for 1 week with no major issues with the game/online services.” Meanwhile kaptainkooleio just isn’t impressed by what they’ve seen in the beta so far “Decided to wait a month. From gameplay I’ve seen, it feels more like Vanguard with some of the better parts of MW22. I’ve mostly been disappointed with MW22 and I’m not looking to get disappointed once again.”

The MW3 PlayStation exclusive beta comes to an end this evening, and the PC and Xbox beta will then kick off in earnest later this week. For more on the game, check out our MW3 (2023) weapons list – all known and expected weapons or our picks of the best Perks in MW3 beta.
