Update: There are reports that things since writing this story are coming back to normal. Some are finding turning off the console or PC, then booting the game up again seems to resolve the issue.

Original story: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 gamers are finding that they’re losing everything, including their bundles and rank. Modern Warfare 3, which went into early access this week, is currently letting those who pre-ordered the game a chance to play the campaign ahead of the full MW3 release date next week. It’s not sure whether or not it’s related to the launch of the new game, but the timing is ominous.

Some gamers are reporting operators have been removed, while others are saying the Souls they have collected as part of the recent Halloween event are not adding up. Elsewhere, others are reporting the Battle Pass has been lost, as well as bundles. “Souls weren’t going up. Challenges weren’t recording. Operators gone, souls then disappeared, battlepass gone, bundles gone. Back to rank 1, wrote one on Reddit. “My game crashed. Logged back on and everything is just gone,” said another.

It seems likely that as the account progress is stored on the servers, which are now full of new MW3 players, it could be causing some sort of disconnect. This is purely guesswork, though. At the time of writing, it appears from the Reddit chat there are still gamers struggling with this issue. If it is server related, it’s something that can and will be fixed, so the best thing to do right now would be sit it out and wait for a resolution.

The good news is that the official COD team are aware of the issue. They posted on X: “Services impacted by this outage are now recovering. Players should not observe a loss in Campaign completion progress. Challenges and other online progression systems are once again tracking, although it may take some time for the accurate Player Rank to appear.”

For those experiencing this issue, do not worry, MW2 progress will carry over to MW3.
