One of Modern Warfare 2’s biggest changes were that to its Perk system – and as we found out earlier this week, even more changes are promised in Season Two next month.
However, many members of the MW2 community are calling for the developers to scrap the new timed system entirely, and return to how it used to be, with perks given a ‘cost’.

It was revealed changes to perks are coming in the MW2 community update earlier this week, with updates to the rates that perks are earned, to allow players to get perks like Ghost earlier in matches.
Fans on Reddit labelled this change as ‘disappointing’ – with threads like “Huge L. Nobody wants timed perks. Just accept it. This is the third time decrease, listen to your community.”
Many users have had similar reactions in their assessments. “Why can’t IW just admit that their idea wasn’t great and go back to the normal perk system?” asked slimeballvlone. “I want the specialist bonus back.”
This sentiment was also shared by DigitalVeil926 – who posted a picture of the old Perk system, where each perk was given a value between 1-5. Players had a set number of points (often 10 – hence ‘Pick 10’), and their loadout couldn’t exceed this number when the value of these perks were added together.
Many users agreed. “Great Perk system as a feature in a mid game. Need it back. Pick 10 is also much better than we have now,” said Cultural_Ranger6115. In fact, Z3KE_SK1 went as far to say “YES! This was the best perk system in all of COD.”
Of course, we’re expecting that there’ll be more tweaks and adjustments to the perk system as time goes on – could a full overhaul of the system be a possibility? We’ll have to wait and see.
