An exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter states that Sonya and Kano have been cast in the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie.

Jessica McNamee, from Home and Away and The Meg, will play Sonya. Josh Lawson will take on the role of Kano, and he’s also from Home and Away but most will probably know him from House of Lies. It makes sense that two more Aussies join the project, as the movie will shoot in Adelaide and will be one of the biggest productions to grace its shores.

Lewis Tan, partaker of the Marvelverse, is also slated to appear in the movie. He played Shatterstar in Deadpool 2 and Zhou Cheng in Iron Fist, and dabbled in Mortal Kombat X: Generations as Kung Jin. The roster is padding out, as Jax, Mileena, Raiden, and Liu Kang have all been cast too. The New Line adaptation is surely enjoying better fortune than the Uncharted movie adaptation, which lost its director last week

Even though it made over $120 million in profits, the first Mortal Kombat movie wasn’t very good. Colm and Josh hope that this new one honors the 1995 movie, but the special effects will doubtlessly be a lot better, which may lose some of the original’s secret sauce.

Mortal Kombat will premiere on March 5, 2021.
