We got our first bit of info on the Mortal Kombat 11 story at last night's big reveal event, and it sounds suitably ludicrous, but it's not like you expected anything else.

The prologue, which you can watch below, shows some old faces in Raiden and Shinnok, and the back of new face's face, Kronika. Kronika is a landmark character for the series, as she is the first female big bad Mortal Kombat has ever had. There's a bit of torture and blood, and even a decapitation in the trailer, too, so I'm sure fans will be happy with that.

The 8 characters you'll start the game with were also revealed to be Raiden, Scorpion, Skarlet, Baraka, Sub-Zero, the Ronda Rousey-voiced Sonya Blade, the pre-order incentive of Shao Khan, and newcomer Geras. Geras is, as you can see if you check out the trailer below, a tough bastard that can control sand, and also has the ability to suspend opponents in the air.

Oh! And his fatality sees him push his rival's brain out from their skull. It's pretty grim.

The follow-up to Mortal Kombat X is scheduled to launch on April 23, and will be available on PC, Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

If you want a Scorpion mask statue thing for some reason, you can pick up the Kollector's Edition, which will also grant you access to the beta that begins on March 28.
