The first gameplay of Mortal Kombat 1 has been shown at the Summer Game Fest as previously promised, with a bunch of new information on the game’s Kameo fighters.

Ed Boon was on stage to talk up the new footage, revealing that players will get to pick from an entire roster of Kameo fighters right after they’ve picked their main. There’ll be a whole bunch to pick from, almost as many as there are fighters, and Boon revealed that many will be nods to Mortal Kombat games of the past. And yes, some characters will be both available as playable characters and Kameos, so for example you can have Sub Zero fighting with Sub Zero, if you like. But there’ll be plenty of other possible combinations – with others teased including classic versions of Sonya, Jax and even the four-armed former boss character Goro.

Better still, it sounds like there’ll be no limits with which characters and Kameos can team up with each other, leading to a lot of possibilities that are sure to please fans.

Mortal Kombat 1 is set to arrive on September 19 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC and Nintendo Switch. A beta is set to arrive later this summer, as well as an online stress test.
