The latest issue of Famitsu magazine has revealed that Capcom currently has Monster Hunter Portable 2nd in development. The first game is the biggest selling PSP game is Japan to date, having shifted an impressive 650,000 copies. The sequel gives players a new home in Pokke Village, with the main field being a snowy mountainous region. Other areas such as a forest, desert and volcano are also present.

The game borrows a fair bit from its PS2 counter part, with much of the model and background data from the PS2 game lifted and used in the Portable version. A feature in Monster Hunter 2 not present in Portable 2nd is the day-night-season time flow system, which changed conditions on the fly as you played. This has been replaced with quests which take place at specific times of the day.

The game also borrows plenty of weapons from the PS2 game, with the likes of the samurai blade and hunting horn all having debuted on the home console. Sadly, online play, a feature that adds much to the PS2 game, doesn’t appear to be present in the PSP game. Famitsu mentions wireless play, but does not specifically discuss infrastructure support, so it’s likely the game will utilise ad hoc for local wireless play as was the case in the original. The magazine does mention downloadable content though, so hopefully Capcom will support the title well beyond release.

We’ll hear more when Capcom officially announces the title.
