Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be getting a new multiplayer mode this month, Activision has announced.
Face Off is an intimate one-versus-one or two-versus-two deathmatch mode with its own multiplayer maps, designed around much longer sight lines than conventional small maps. No part of the Face Off multiplayer mode seems to involve you switching faces with Nicholas Cage, which smacks of missed opportunity if you ask me.
Four maps will be released to Xbox 360 owners in May, but only the first two will be made available to Modern Warfare 3 players for free: Erosion and Aground. Erosion takes place across Roman ruins and aqueducts and Aground takes place on a dilapidated transport ship sprawled over Scotland’s Orkney Islands.
The second batch of maps, beach resort Getaway and military mountain base Lookout, will be provided to premium Call of Duty: Elite subscribers or as part of Modern Warfare 3’s Content Collection 2, which is released on May 22. Again, only for Xbox 360 owners.
PlayStation 3 and PC players will presumably see this wodge of content after about a month. Or two on PC, if Content Collection 1 was anything to go by. Gosh, this Modern Warfare 3 DLC stuff is all a bit too complicated for me.
Also released in Content Collection 2, or to premium Call of Duty: Elite subscribers, is multiplayer map Oasis, which looks like a mix between Modern Warfare 2‘s Bailout and Black Ops’ Hotel. Two Spec Ops missions, Kill Switch and Iron Clad, will also be bundled in.
April’s premium Elite content, multiplayer maps Sanctuary and Foundation, will also be part of Content Collection 2.
And that’s your lot, and after writing up all the logistics of that my brain actually hurts.
This year’s Call of Duty, the Treyarch-helmed Black Ops 2, was officially announced last week. Will Call of Duty: Elite still be so confusing next year?
