Call of Duty: Modern Warfare “definitely innovates on the co-op genre,” Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling has told NowGamer.

Looking back to Modern Warfare 2’s Spec Ops mode, Bowling said: “It was sort of the beginning and there was so much more we wanted to do with it. That’s what we executed with Modern Warfare 3. “

“Game design is all about iteration, you know? Spec Ops from Modern Warfare 2 is exactly what we wanted. That was our first time introducing co-op in our franchise. So we put co-op in there, it worked out fantastic, it was a great prototype for what we wanted in Modern Warfare 3.”

It’s this which has helped the team create something for Modern Warfare 3 which you don’t get in other co-op shooters.

“It definitely innovates on the co-op genre,” added Bowling. “I mean, not only are you playing together as a team but you have all these features of multiplayer and you’re fighting against AI. Especially in Survival mode because it never stops going until you die. So you can go for an infinite amount of waves. The better you get, the longer you can play.”

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be released worldwide on November 8.
