With the latest update coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and with further DLC characters getting added following the recently announced collaboration between Call of Duty and The Boys, players were dismayed to see that Gunfight had been removed from the game’s playlists.
Taking to the Modern Warfare 2 Reddit, many players were quick to note their frustration at the removal of Modern Warfare 2’s 2v2 mode. User Masked555 pleaded with the Call of Duty developers to stop removing the game mode saying, “Again Infinity Ward decides to rotate out gunfight, why?! It has 5 unique maps which are unplayable now. Most other game modes have a quickplay filter, but not Gunfight. There are 3 map-specific playlists in rotation now (Vondel, shipment and Shoothouse) but they remove a specific game mode with unique gameplay and maps? It doesn’t make sense at all.”
Alongside this, another player noted that Gunfight was “the only reason I play COD anymore”. Players were left bewildered that the Call of Duty developers would spend so much time adding maps and various game modes to Gunfight only to remove the playlist entirely. User kris9512 said, “This is mind-blowing to me. They have the maps for it. And now it’s unplayable.” This decision has led to a number of playing saying they’re uninstalling Modern Warfare 2 and returning to Modern Warfare (2019) and Black Ops: Cold War.
One player said, “I’m installing MW1 right now just to play Gunfight lol. It’s the only game mode I enjoy these days. Hopefully, they have more than the garbage 3v3 sniper mode.” Alongside this many players like adrevenueisgood have been calling on Infinity Ward to ensure both 2v2 and 3v3 Gunfight return as permanent modes. They said, “They should keep 2v2 and 3v3 gunfight as permanent modes fr.”
The entire Gunfight community is frustrated at this decision but this isn’t anything new for Call of Duty as modes tend to be cycled out each update such as Shipment 24/7. However, given the uniqueness of the Gunfight mode, many were hoping it would be here to stay.
