Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to produce a movie based on Mojang’s smash hit Minecraft video game, reports Deadline.

Roy Lee is producing the film via his Vertigo Entertainment production company along with Jill Messick (Mean Girls and Mean Moms). Lee might not be a household name, but on the back of The LEGO Movie, which has already grossed over $250 million worldwide, Minecraft is hoped to become the next huge block-based-buster for the studio.

The Minecraft movie will be live-action, according to Deadline, which seems like an odd choice.

We’re already looking forward to Minecraft The Movie The Videogame.
