Asobo Studio has announced it is to delay movie tie-in expansion Top Gun: MaverickĀ for Microsoft Flight Simulator into next year.

A news post announcing the delay gave a very simple explanation for the decision. Namely, that Paramount Pictures has decided to push the release of the movie itā€™s based on into next year. The decision to delay the movie is related to concerns over the rising Delta variant of the COVID-19 outbreak. The studio also moved movies Jackass Forever to February, and Mission: Impossible 7 from May next year into September 2022.

The Top Gun: Maverick DLC was announced during the Xbox Bethesda Showcase as part of this yearā€™s E3 event. While details outside of the trailer are slight, itā€™ll be a free update and will include the F-18 Super Hornet heavily featured in the movie. (No word yet on if itā€™ll include seminal Kenny Loggins track Danger Zone.)

Last month during Gamescom, the development team announced the gameā€™s first major expansion as the Reno Air Race. Itā€™ll add competitive multiplayer racers to the simulator, and will be available later this Fall.

The Microsoft Flight SimulatorĀ Top Gun: Maverick DLC will now launch for Xbox Series X|S and PC on May 27, 2022.
