To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Metal Slug, SNK and Ignition have announced the European release of Metal Slug Anthology. The series made its debut in the arcade back in 1996 and now, some ten years later, is coming to the PSP.

The anthology will contain: Metal Slug, Metal Slug 2, Metal Slug X, Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug 4, and Metal Slug 5. This will be the first appearance of Metal Slug 1 and 2 on a home console since the NEOGEO AES system. We’re promised arcade perfect conversions, with support for both widescreen and the standard display format.

The games will support wireless two-player co-op, plus will contain bonus galleries featuring classic poster and character art, and a host of unlockable and exclusive content.

The Metal Slug franchise has always been one of the most popular of the genre,” says Peter Rollinson, Product Manager, Ignition Entertainment. “With the addition of Wireless support, these games are truly suited to the PSP and will be an enjoyable distraction for gamers on the go.

The game’s scheduled for release later this year. A Wii version has also been announced, but it currently has no release date.
