Speaking in the latest issue of (via PSU), Konami’s Yuji Korekado confirmed that controversial zombie killer Metal Gear Survive won’t feature loot boxes. And, while the game is an always online affair and does feature microtransactions, they won’t be the pay-to-win variety.

‘There will be no loot boxes, and there will be no pay-to-win microtransactions, there will be things like accessories in Metal Gear Online Forward Operating Base in MGSV: The Phantom Pain,’ said Korekado-san.

Sure, while it’s annoying there’s still some wrinkles of in-game transactions doing the rounds, it’s comforting to know that Metal Gear Survive isn’t going to contain some of the industry’s most egregious practices — especially after the whole Star Wars Battlefront II debacle.

Metal Gear Survive is due for release on PS4, PC, and Xbox One on February 22, and recently wrapped up its open beta testing phase. Be sure to check out the latest trailer for the game to see how it’s coming along, including a surprise appearance by one of the series’ most iconic creations.
